Arsenal, Man City set for 2026 Community Shield clash Sunday

Arsenal and Manchester City are scheduled to face off in the 2026 FA Community Shield on August 16, 2026, as the preliminary match to the upcoming 2026/27 Premier League season. The reigning Premier League champions, Arsenal, will take on Manchester City, who secured the FA Cup title by defeating Chelsea in May. Established in 1908, the Community Shield is an annual event that pits the Premier League champions against the FA Cup winners; in cases where a club wins both competitions, the Premier League runners-up step in.

Crystal Palace are the current holders, having triumphed over Liverpool 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw last August.

This upcoming clash will be the first meeting between Arsenal and City since their Premier League encounter in April, during which City emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline. Their recent Community Shield history includes a 2023 meeting that Arsenal won 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of the regular game. Since the Premier League's inception in 1992, the double has been achieved a mere eight times, with Manchester United leading the pack with four instances in 1993/94, 1996/97, 2007/08, and 2010/11, followed by Chelsea's two successes in 2005/06 and 2009/10, and the most recent in 2018/19. Interestingly, the data reveals that the losing side of the Community Shield has more frequently gone on to win the Premier League over the years — 10 times as opposed to eight times for the winners since 1992.
