Arsenal 10% clause could activate with Newcastle sale

Arsenal may benefit financially from a potential Newcastle United sale involving midfielder Joe Willock, thanks to a 10% sell-on clause that was agreed upon when Willock left the North London club. Willock joined Newcastle on a permanent basis in August 2021 after spending the previous season on loan at the Magpies, with the initial reported fee of £25 million believed to be closer to £20 million.

This move was one of Arsenal's most successful academy sales, as Willock made 78 senior appearances and scored 11 goals for the Gunners before his departure. Despite finding regular first-team football at Newcastle, Willock admitted that Arsenal could have valued him higher, stating that he wasn't properly recognized during his time at the club.

The 10% sell-on clause means that Arsenal would receive a percentage of the transfer fee if Willock were to move to another club, providing an additional boost to their finances in the summer transfer window. Newcastle United remains in talks with Turkish side Besiktas regarding Willock's future, but the Magpies are seeking a higher fee of around £17 million.

Any increase in the eventual transfer price would not only benefit Newcastle but also the Premier League champions through the sell-on clause, creating a win-win situation for both clubs if another interested party steps in.
