Anwar signals key changes before Budget 2027, first announcements due Monday

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that urgent changes would be implemented before the presentation of Budget 2027, set to occur in early October. These changes would encompass government policies, internal matters within Pakatan Harapan (PH), and cooperation among parties in the federal unity government. As President of PKR, Anwar announced that he would begin disclosing details of some of these changes starting the day after tomorrow, in advance of Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.

He further mentioned that the remaining changes would be unveiled in the 2027 Budget later in the month.

Anwar also highlighted that the primary issue was not with the policies themselves, but rather with inadequate communication at the leadership level. He emphasized the necessity of effectively conveying policies, as there might have been overlooked aspects. Despite Malaysia's favorable economic performance, including a projected six percent growth for the quarter, Anwar stressed that the country's economic success would not be fully appreciated if communication remained weak.

Anwar expressed gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his commitment to the unity government and to Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah leaders for their willingness to support its formation. He acknowledged the need for gradual implementation of changes due to the diverse needs and opinions among the coalition parties.

Anwar pointed out that the coalition must prioritize its reform agenda while maintaining political stability, safeguarding national security, and ensuring the welfare of the people.
