Anwar signals key changes before Budget 2027, first announcements due Monday

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that he will soon reveal significant policy changes before the Budget 2027 is presented in October. These changes will encompass government policies, internal matters within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, and inter-party cooperation within the federal unity government. Speaking at the 2026 PKR National Congress in Melaka, Anwar, who also serves as finance minister, stated that the primary issue is ineffective communication among leaders rather than flawed policies.

He emphasized the importance of improved communication, as some aspects may have been neglected, and the country's economic outlook remains robust, with Bank Negara projecting a 6% growth for the current quarter. Anwar thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his cooperation in forming the unity government, as well as Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg and Sabah leaders for their support.

Despite party disagreements, Anwar stressed that all parties must acknowledge that reforms must be implemented gradually. He acknowledged that the coalition government must set priorities in its reform agenda while maintaining political stability, ensuring national security, and prioritizing the well-being of the people.
