Aleem Khan expresses support for Hazara province, calls for new administrative units

ISLAMABAD - Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) leader Abdul Aleem Khan voiced his backing for the formation of a new Hazara province in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during a recent statement. Khan pointed out that this demand has been repeatedly raised in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly since 2010, and many political parties are now supporting the establishment of Hazara province. The IPP stands solidly behind this call, which Khan believes can help address people's problems.

Khan also emphasized the importance of creating new administrative units within existing provinces, such as South Punjab and Bahawalpur. He noted that the rapid growth in population has made the establishment of additional provinces an urgent requirement, as it can improve administrative efficiency and resolve public issues. Khan highlighted that dividing each of the four provinces into four or more administrative units would be advantageous.

The IPP chief stressed that such a move should not be driven by political expediency or partisan interests. Instead, he expressed the need for a new working order across the nation, aligning with the demands of the modern era. Khan asserted that the IPP would continue to advocate for new provinces at every opportunity.

Moreover, Khan urged politicians to assume their responsibilities by addressing the issue of new provinces, rather than protecting their political fiefdoms. He stressed that the creation of new provinces is not a concern of any specific political party or region, but rather an issue of public convenience, better governance, and national interest. Khan called for the issue to be taken seriously, transcending political affiliations.

Recently, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, speaking at the Pakistan Economic Summit 2026, called upon all political parties to resolve key national issues, including the creation of new provinces, stating that it is the only solution to improving the country's overall situation, which he said had "collapsed." The issue gained traction following Naqvi's proposal, eliciting strong reactions from government ministers.

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) expressed support for the proposal, while the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) stressed the necessity of adhering to the constitutional framework and obtaining national consensus.
