After TH, govt to look into issues plaguing Felda

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that his government will investigate matters affecting Felda, following the release of the royal commission of inquiry report into Tabung Haji. The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) continues to grapple with various hardships and requires government assistance to enhance essential facilities.

Sultan Ibrahim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, sought clarification on the oversight of Felda during their meeting last week. Anwar informed the King about the current issues plaguing Felda, and he has been briefed on the matter. On August 7th, Anwar instructed Felda to submit a comprehensive report on the sale of a hotel, which was reportedly sold at a significantly lower price than its original purchase.

The Prime Minister also expressed concern over the project's loss-making nature, considering the hardships experienced by Felda settlers. The Royal Commission of Inquiry's findings into Tabung Haji, declassified last month, call for a significant overhaul, including stricter oversight, forensic audits of select investments, and restrictions on political interference in the institution.

The report's revelations resulted in police investigations, actions by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, scrutiny by the Inland Revenue Board, and several high-profile arrests.
