After TH, govt to look into issues plaguing Felda

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that Felda settlers continue to experience various challenges and require government support to enhance essential facilities. Following the release of the royal commission of inquiry report into Tabung Haji, the administration will now investigate issues plaguing the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).

Sultan Ibrahim expressed concern over probes into statutory bodies and requested to know who was overseeing Felda. Anwar, the PKR president, informed the King about current issues involving Felda during a recent audience. The Prime Minister directed Felda to submit a comprehensive report on a hotel sale, which was alleged to be priced significantly lower than the original purchase price. The hotel was set to be sold for £100 million (RM550 million), while the prior management had bought it for £160 million.

Anwar expressed disappointment over the proposed loss-making sale, highlighting that Felda settlers still face numerous hardships and need governmental assistance to improve basic facilities. The Royal Commission of Inquiry findings on Tabung Haji were declassified recently and recommended a comprehensive overhaul, including tighter oversight, forensic audits of selected investments, and restrictions on political involvement in the institution.

The report also led to investigations by the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Inland Revenue Board, and several high-profile arrests.
