Adnan Sami says India was always meant to be his home: ‘God made Aug 15 my birthday’

Adnan Sami, the renowned singer-composer, arrived in India 25 years ago on March 13, 2021, and has never left. The story began when Asha Bhosle, a legendary artist, encouraged Sami to release his music in India during a recording session in London. Sami initially planned to compose an album in Mumbai, hosting it for Bhosle, but found himself staying far beyond his planned month-long visit due to the deep connection he felt with the country.

This connection dates back to his childhood when his mother's friends in Delhi and Mumbai exposed him to classical music, leading him to discover the similarities between the piano and the santoor. Sami, born on August 15, India's Independence Day, feels an undeniable connection to the country, believing it to be his true home. Despite living across the world, he felt a strong sense of belonging upon arriving in India, experiencing a "vacuum of something missing in my life" that was only filled by India.
