A Plus dismisses claims poor English explains his limited role in Parliament

Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as A Plus, has dismissed allegations that his limited presence in Parliament is due to his English language abilities. The musician-turned-politician explained that his priority is to deliver tangible outcomes for his constituents rather than speaking often in the legislature merely to gain public attention.

A Plus labeled these claims as irritating, stating they reveal a misunderstanding of what constitutes effective parliamentary representation. He expressed frustration at those who claim he "doesn't speak in Parliament because he can't speak English," suggesting these individuals are misinformed and cannot be blamed for their ignorance.

Obeng argued that frequent floor interventions should not be mistaken for effective representation, pointing out that some MPs may speak often in Parliament without delivering meaningful results for their constituents. He used his children, who reside and were raised in London, as an example of the challenges some parliamentary debates can present.

"The English that they speak in Parliament, when I show it to my kids, they say, ‘What are they saying?’ We have made it look like just going to the floor of Parliament and screaming makes you the best MP," he remarked. A Plus emphasized that he entered Parliament with the intention of bringing about meaningful change to Gomoa Central, rather than seeking recognition for his English language skills.

He maintained that he would prefer to be remembered for the impact he makes on his constituents' lives than for the number of times he speaks during parliamentary proceedings.
