Nine areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality, namely Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sarikei, Bintulu, Sri Aman, Mukah, Sibu and Samalaju. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Nine areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air pollution index (API) readings as of 8am today. According to the Department of Environment’s API Management System website, the highest unhealthy API reading was recorded in Kuching (167), followed by Samarahan (164), IPD Serian (163), Sarikei (157), Bintulu (156), Sri Aman (154), Mukah (152), Sibu (131) and Samalaju (126).

A total of 46 areas in the Peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak were at a moderate level, while 13 locations in the Peninsula recorded good API readings. API readings of 0 to 50 are categorised as good, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, 301-400 hazardous, 401-500 very hazardous and over 501 as emergency.
