Yemeni official says Houthi attack killed 8, rebels claim Saudi strike

SANAA: Yemen's internationally recognised government reported that a Houthi strike on Friday killed eight individuals in the port city of Mokha, while Houthi rebels claimed to have also targeted a Saudi oil installation. The peace truce in Yemen's civil war between the Houthis and Saudi-backed authorities seemed to have ended last month, with the rebels launching devastating assaults on government-controlled regions.

The rebels have imposed a maritime blockade on Saudi ports, targeting ships in the Red Sea and asserting strikes on oil infrastructure. According to the Yemeni official, the Mokha attack involved the Houthi firing of five missiles at commercial vessels unloading at the port, with two ships currently ablaze. Two security personnel perished in the assault, the official disclosed.

Simultaneously, Houthi media cited a rebel military source stating that the group had carried out a drone attack on a Saudi Aramco site in southwest Saudi Arabia, successfully achieving their goal. Prior to this, the Houthi group had asserted a missile strike on an Aramco facility in Jizan. These actions by the Houthis, aimed at disrupting shipping and Saudi oil facilities, coincide with Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has become a major point of contention between Tehran and Washington in their attempts to resolve the ongoing Middle East conflict, initiated by the US and Israel in February.
