What’s On in Greater Recife This Weekend: Forró, Circus and Ciranda

This weekend in Greater Recife, there are plenty of free events for everyone to enjoy. On Saturday, the 15th, you can attend a free forró concert and DVD taping in Olinda at the Centro de Convenções de Pernambuco. The band Raí Saia Rodada is celebrating 25 years on the road, and they are joined by popular performers Joelma, Wesley Safadão and Natanzinho Lima.

Forró music is upbeat and traditional, danced in close pairs with a quick, shuffling step. Entry is free, but a ticket must be reserved online through Evenyx and attendees must bring 2kg of non-perishable food to donate.

The Recife Circus Festival, known as Mostra de Circo do Recife, runs from Saturday, the 15th through Tuesday, the 25th. The opening is at Parque Governador Eduardo Campos in the Pina district, featuring hands-on circus sessions, short act showcases and a headline performance. All activities are free to attend, making it a great option for families or those curious about Brazilian circus arts.

On Sunday, the 16th, don't miss the 5th Expo Preta at RioMar Recife, a fair showcasing Black-owned Pernambuco businesses with fashion, beauty, art, food, plants and crafts. Entry is free, and the fair runs until Sunday. Additionally, there is a wellness talk by Zen Buddhist monk Monja Coen on Monday the 17th at Teatro RioMar. Tickets for the talk are available at R$40 full price and R$20 half price, providing an affordable way to experience local culture and entertainment.
