WeWork Inc Sells 2.5% Stake In WeWork India For ₹244 Cr

US-based coworking company WeWork Inc recently sold a 2.53% stake in its India-based subsidiary, WeWork India, for ₹244.1 Cr through multiple open-market transactions. The shares were sold at ₹697.55 per share, representing a 1.4% discount to the stock's last closing price. The sale, conducted by the company's affiliate 1 Ariel Way Tenant Limited, resulted in the stock being purchased by several financial institutions, including Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company, Citigroup, HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company, Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, and ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund.

Motilal Oswal purchased 13.6 Lakh shares for ₹94.9 Cr, while ICICI Prudential MF acquired 14.2 Lakh shares worth ₹99.2 Cr. Citigroup Global Markets Mauritius and HDFC also acquired stakes worth ₹25 Cr each. This sale marks a 17% dilution of WeWork Inc's shareholding in WeWork India. The recent bulk deals were executed as investors sought to capitalize on the significant rise in WeWork India's share prices, which have increased by more than 43.3% over the past three months and 16.8% year-to-date.

However, the stock saw a decline of 6.08% in the previous week due to weak Q1 FY27 results, which resulted in a loss of ₹4.1 Cr, down 71% from the ₹14.2 Cr loss incurred in the same quarter of the previous year. Despite the decline, WeWork India's operating revenue rose by 28% to ₹683.8 Cr in Q1 FY27, up from ₹535.3 Cr in the comparable period last year.

The company expanded its operational capacity by adding nearly 7,000 desks, bringing its total desk count to over 1.3 Lakh desks and operational footprint to 79 centres across eight cities, hosting 9.1 Mn sq ft of operational area. At the end of June 2026, WeWork Inc owned a 14.82% stake, or 2.05 Cr shares, in WeWork India.
