Abiodun completes 108-unit Buhari estate in Ogun

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has transformed housing into a powerful engine of urban transformation in the state. A prime example of this transformation is the Prince Court Estate in Kobape, a thriving residential community featuring completed homes, its own electricity supply, a shopping mall, health center, ATM gallery, and security post.

This estate, which has expanded through four phases, is a clear statement of what housing policy can achieve when it is seen as an instrument of economic development and urban renewal.

The Prince Court Estate is not merely a collection of isolated blocks of buildings, but a fully integrated community. Alongside the housing, electricity, healthcare, security, banking, and commercial facilities have been integrated into the development, creating a self-sustaining community. This approach underscores the broader development significance of Ogun’s housing policies, as housing generates demand for essential services such as roads, electricity, water, retail, transportation, and security.

Another noteworthy aspect of Ogun’s housing strategy is its focus on unlocking forgotten public assets. The administration has redeveloped dilapidated government land, transforming it into modern and functional urban assets. For instance, more than 200 civil servants’ quarters, which had deteriorated over 50 years, were replaced with modern buildings on approximately 25 hectares of valuable land in Abeokuta and Ijebu-Ode.

This approach not only creates new housing but also generates economic value from underutilised public resources.

Ogun’s housing programme is still expanding, with the Abiodun administration approving additional projects. These include 450 two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, official quarters for members of the State House of Assembly, duplexes at the Ibara Government Reservation Area Scheme II, and the reconstruction of the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

These ongoing initiatives demonstrate the administration's commitment to ensuring that Ogun’s rapid economic growth translates into improved housing opportunities and overall quality of life for its residents.
