Warga India bunuh rakan guna tukul gagal rayu kurang hukuman

Mahkamah Persekutuan Malaysia, in a three-judge panel, has rejected an appeal from K Alagesan seeking a reduction in his 35-year and 12 years jail term for the 2020 incident where he killed his neighbor with a bat. The incident occurred at a retirement home in Petaling Jaya on the morning of September 9, 2020, when Alagesan entered the lounge where the victim, Sugan Ganesan, was sleeping.

Without warning, Alagesan struck Sugan repeatedly on the head with a bat before leaving the room. The owner of the retirement home then called the police, who apprehended Alagesan at the scene. A post-mortem confirmed Sugan's death was due to severe head injuries from the blows. Alagesan admitted guilt to the charge in the High Court in 2024 and was initially sentenced to 38 years in prison and 15 strokes of the cane under the Kuala Lumpur Penal Code.

The Appeal Court subsequently reduced the sentence to 35 years and 12 years. However, an attempt to further reduce the sentence in the Federal Court failed. Deputy Public Prosecutor Iznina Hanim Hashim represented the prosecution.
