Vance puts cheap energy ahead of Iran nuclear threat as US tightens pressure

Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent revealed that the administration plans to implement unprecedented economic measures against Iran, including a combination of severe isolation and a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. This strategy comes as discussions continue about potentially returning to a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, although a senior Iranian official reported no progress.

Trump recently asserted that Iran is economically struggling and that the U.S. controls their money, portraying the administration's approach as securing an economic victory over Iran. Additionally, the White House announced tariffs on imported drones and components, targeting several key U.S. allies. The tariffs are expected to take effect within 21 days.

Lastly, Trump directed the U.S. Navy to revert to steam-powered catapults for launching fighter jets from its newest aircraft carriers, a change that is anticipated to incur substantial costs.
