Use Osun to show how prepared you are for 2027, Tinubu tells INEC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to utilize the upcoming Osun State governorship election as a showcase of their preparedness for the 2027 general elections. Tinubu has also emphasized the importance of security and transparency during the electoral process. The Osun State gubernatorial election will take place on August 15, 2026, and will see 15 candidates, including the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Hon.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, he urged the electorate to abstain from any actions that could jeopardize the peaceful nature of the election. He also charged INEC to employ this test case to demonstrate their readiness for the 2027 polls. The President has instructed the Inspector-General of Police and other responsible security personnel to ensure maximum security at polling stations, maintaining that no space should be left for troublemakers to disrupt the process. Tinubu expressed confidence in the electoral officials and voters, promising them that all necessary measures have been taken to guarantee a peaceful, free, and fair election. He reiterated that the success of the Osun Governorship election must reflect the people's will.
