Pakistan, Norway agree to enhance cooperation in curbing illegal immigration, counterterrorism

Pakistan and Norway have reached an agreement to strengthen their cooperation in combating illegal immigration, counterterrorism, police training, and mutual legal assistance, according to a statement from Pakistan's Ministry of Interior. This development took place during a meeting between Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Norway's Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide in Islamabad.

Naqvi highlighted that Pakistan's effective measures have led to a 47% reduction in illegal immigration to Europe. He emphasized the country's zero-tolerance policy towards illegal immigration and noted that the European Union has also recognized Pakistan's efforts in this regard. The minister stressed that legal immigration should be promoted to effectively curb illegal migration.

During the meeting, discussions also covered the situation in Afghanistan and the activities of proscribed organizations operating from its soil. The minister pointed out that Afghanistan is frequently used for terrorist activities against Pakistan, and Pakistan serves as a barrier between the world and terrorism. He reiterated the importance of everyone working together to eradicate terrorism completely.

Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, Federal Secretary Interior, and several senior officials attended the meeting. The visit of Norway's Foreign Minister is expected to mark a significant milestone in further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
