Unemployed men remanded over Tanjung Bungah armed robberies

Two men, both aged 29, were apprehended by police in separate locations this morning in connection with a series of criminal activities in Tanjung Bungah. The arrests took place as part of a special operation following four reports lodged between July 28 and August 2. The suspects were taken into custody at approximately 8:45am and 10:05am by officers from the Northeast district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Division.

The investigations stem from allegations of housebreaking under Penal Code Section 457, armed robbery under Sections 392 and 397, trespassing under Section 448, and theft under Section 379. Two of the incidents reportedly resulted in estimated losses of around RM17,000, while the other two cases did not involve any reported losses.

Police seized several items believed to be connected to the victims during the arrests. Penang's police chief, Datuk Dennis Lim, emphasized the severity of the cases and the department's commitment to maintaining public safety and wellbeing. The suspects are set to be remanded for further investigation tomorrow. Ongoing investigations are being conducted into the cases.

Earlier this month, police had urged Tanjung Bungah residents to report any suspicious individuals to aid the ongoing investigations. Social media images showed a man in a red shirt, cap, and face mask, allegedly involved in housebreaking incidents in the area, sparking public concern over the alleged break-ins in five homes.
