Ukraine races to counter Russia’s jet Shaheds with a 600-kph interceptor

Ukraine is rapidly developing its capability to counter Russian jet-powered Shaheds with a new 600-kph interceptor drone, according to former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Speaking on August 14, Fedorov noted the shift in air-war strategy as Russia increasingly uses jet-powered Shaheds. Ukraine began a comprehensive effort to develop these interceptors last year, including market opening, combat trials, and increased procurement.

This work has contributed to one of the world's most advanced short-range air defense systems. Fedorov emphasized the urgent need for Ukraine to accelerate and intensify its efforts to counter the new threat. The Ukrainian team has already begun testing a jet-powered interceptor capable of exceeding 600 kilometers per hour. This drone is now undergoing combat tests, with developers eagerly awaiting results, including potential first confirmed shootdowns of enemy targets.

The P1-SUN JetKiller, developed by Ukrainian company SkyFall, can reach speeds of up to 370 kilometers per hour and operates at altitudes of up to 9 kilometers. Its AI-powered guidance system allows it to automatically detect, track, and lock onto targets.
