Two die cleaning sewage in Abia

Two fatalities have been reported after manual sewage evacuation took place at Power Line, located off Omuma Road in Aba, Abia State. This incident occurred on Monday, August 10, 2026, as reported in a statement released by the Abia State Orientation Agency on Friday. The agency cautioned residents against manually evacuating sewage, labeling it as both "illegal and dangerous."

The statement further read, "Residents are strongly advised to desist from manual evacuation of sewage, as the practice is both illegal and dangerous." The agency highlighted this warning following the tragic loss of two men who perished while cleaning sewage manually at Power Line, off Omuma Road, Aba on Monday, 10th August 2026.

The Abia State Orientation Agency emphasized the use of approved sewage evacuation services to prevent further loss of lives. The agency also advised residents and businesses to procure waste buckets from approved vendors and employ them correctly for waste collection.
