A lawyer who did not show up for a court hearing related to a school violence case has been sued by the victim's family for fraud. 권경애 변호사는 지난 2020년 5월, 학교폭력 피해자 유족이 가해자를 상대로 낸 민사소송의 변호인으로 선임됐다. Lawyer Kwon Kyung-ae was appointed as the attorney for a civil lawsuit filed by the family of a school violence victim against the perpetrator in May 2020. 당시 권 변호사는 1심에서 승소한 뒤 2심에서 뒤집힌 상황에서 3심 상고심을 앞두고 있었다. At the time, Lawyer Kwon had won the first trial, but the verdict was overturned in the second trial, and the case was pending in the third trial. 그런데 권 변호사는 2022년 1월 11일, 대법원 상고심에 출석하지 않아 '노쇼' 논란이 일었다. However, Lawyer Kwon did not show up for the Supreme Court hearing on January 11, 2022, sparking controversy over her absence. 이에 피해자 유족 측은 "권 변호사가 합의 종용과 무관한 3심 상고심에 무단으로 불출석했다"며 "그 결과 상고심이 각하됐고, 유족들이 가해자로부터 위자료를 받지 못하게 됐다"고 주장했다. In response, the victim's family claimed that "Lawyer Kwon unilaterally failed to attend the third trial, despite it not being related to a settlement, resulting in the dismissal of the appeal and preventing the family from receiving compensation from the perpetrator." 유족 측은 이에 따라 권 변호사를 상대로 "사기 혐의로 고소한다"며 지난 8일 서울중앙지검에 고소장을 접수했다. As a result, the victim's family filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on the 8th, accusing Lawyer Kwon of fraud. 고소장에는 권 변호사가 2심 판결을 뒤집기 위해 3심 상고심에서 '상고 기각' 전략을 쓰기로 했는데, 정작 본인은 출석하지 않아 재판부가 각하 결정을 내렸다고 적혀 있다. The complaint states that Lawyer Kwon had planned to use a "dismissal of appeal" strategy in the third trial to overturn the second trial's verdict, but she herself failed to attend, resulting in the court dismissing the case. 유족 측은 "권 변호사가 2심에서 승소한 뒤 (3심 상고심에) 출석하지 않아 재판이 각하됐다"며 "이는 변호사의 직무 유기"라고 강조했다. The victim's family emphasized that "Lawyer Kwon did not attend the third trial despite winning the second trial, resulting in the dismissal of the case, which constitutes a breach of her duties as an attorney." 서울중앙지검은 고소장 접수 후 사건을 형사 10부에 배당하고, 검토에 들어갔다. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office assigned the case to the Criminal 10th Division after receiving the complaint and began reviewing it.
