This country to give 2.4m citizens up to S$600

Singapore, the world's second wealthiest nation, is preparing to distribute a one-time cash payment of between S$400 and S$600 to over 2.4 million adult citizens in September, according to government officials. This move aims to provide relief to households grappling with increased living expenses. The Enhanced Budget 2026 Cost-of-Living (COL) Special Payment is set to begin distribution on September 9, 2026.

The enhanced payment comes after an initial announcement at a lower level and was subsequently increased as part of additional support measures. Eligible Singapore citizens, who are 21 years or older in 2026, will receive the cash handout if they meet certain criteria. To qualify, an individual must be a Singapore citizen residing in the country, have an Assessable Income (AI) of no more than S$100,000 for the Year of Assessment 2025, own no more than one property, and have an Annual Value (AV) of their residence that does not exceed S$100,000.

Eligible citizens will receive different amounts based on their Assessable Income and the Annual Value of their property. Those with an AI of up to S$22,000 and an AV of S$15,000 or less can receive the maximum payment of S$600. The payout can decrease to S$500 or S$400 depending on the home's value for individuals with higher AI. Those with an AI above S$22,000 will receive the minimum payment of S$400.

The government will automatically credit the payment to eligible Singaporeans' bank accounts, while others can receive the money through PayNow-NRIC or GovCash. No application is required, and citizens can verify their eligibility through the government's benefits portal using their SingPass. The Ministry of Finance has assured the public that official notifications regarding the payment will only be sent via SMS from "gov.sg" and will not require recipients to provide personal information or click on any links.
