Police searched and seized Hyundai Heavy Industries' Gunsan shipyard on Wednesday over a fatal accident in which a worker was crushed to death. The accident occurred on April 10 when a 56-year-old subcontractor's employee was caught in a welding machine while working on a docked ship at the shipyard. The Busan regional labor office had announced on April 17 that it would refer Hyundai Heavy Industries to the prosecution on charges of violating the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The police searched the shipyard for 11 hours, confiscating documents and computers related to workplace safety management. A police spokesperson said, "We are investigating whether the company failed to take necessary measures despite being aware of the possibility of accidents." The spokesperson added, "We plan to investigate further by summoning those involved."
