STF Seizes 10 Kg Heroin Worth ₹80 Crore In Guwahati, Punjab-Based Dealer Arrested

Guwahati, August 14: Assam's Special Task Force (STF) confiscated 10 kg of heroin, valued at Rs 80 crore, from a flat in Om Residency, Chachal, Dispur, and arrested a Punjab-based narcotics dealer. The operation was headed by Additional SP (STF) Kalyan Pathak, who received a tip-off about a Punjabi narcotics dealer residing in the flat to receive a large shipment of drugs for distribution in Punjab.

The STF discovered the heroin, concealed in a red shoulder bag within an almirah. The arrested individual, Hardeep Singh, 38, son of Lt Saudagar Singh, was apprehended near Mai Da Gurudwara, Agwar, Khwaja Baju, Jagraon, in Punjab's Ludhiana district. Authorities are pursuing legal actions against him. Preliminary findings indicate the drugs were transported through neighboring states, with supply routes originating from Manipur.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the operation and reiterated the government's opposition to illegal narcotics. The seizure is part of the state's ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks. Assam frequently serves as a transit point for cross-border cartels moving contraband from the Golden Triangle region via neighboring northeastern states to mainland markets like West Bengal.

To address this issue, law enforcement agencies have enhanced inter-state information sharing, border monitoring, and joint operations with central agencies.
