SOCAR Ending Its Car Rental Service In Malaysia On 31 August 2026

SOCAR has announced that it will be discontinuing its car-sharing service in Malaysia, with the operations set to end on 31 August 2026. The decision came unexpectedly and without any provided reason. SOCAR had been running its car-sharing service in Malaysia since 2018, allowing users to rent vehicles by the hour through its app.

This service stood out by enabling users to locate and unlock vehicles directly from their smartphones without the need to visit a rental counter. Following the launch of SOCAR in Malaysia, the company further expanded its presence in the local mobility market by introducing Trevo in 2020. Unlike SOCAR, which operated its own fleet, Trevo utilized a peer-to-peer model where vehicle owners listed their cars for rent.

Currently, the shutdown seems to be limited to SOCAR, while Trevo remains operational and continues to actively update its social media platforms. This is a stark contrast to SOCAR's own online presence, which has been relatively quiet since the last update dated in May 2026. The company has not disclosed any details regarding what will happen to its fleet after the service ends, nor if Trevo will remain under the same ownership post the shutdown.
