SAA places acting CEO Matshela Seshibe on special leave

South African Airways (SAA) has placed its Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, Matshela Seshibe, on special leave, effective immediately. Seshibe assumed leadership of the national carrier only four months ago, following the departure of former CEO, Professor John Lamola. In a statement on Friday, SAA announced that Seshibe will remain on special leave until the result of an internal process is known.

Prior to his tenure as SAA CEO, Seshibe held the position of Chief Executive Officer at the airline's catering subsidiary, Air Chefs. However, his initial appointment was clouded by allegations of governance failures during his previous role at Daybreak Farms. Koekie Mbeki, SAA's Chief Legal Officer, has now been appointed as Acting Group Chief Executive Officer to maintain leadership continuity.
