Rolls-Royce, Reliance plan to develop indigenous combat engine for AMCA programme

New Delhi - Reliance Industries Ltd and Rolls-Royce have announced a joint venture to develop an indigenous combat engine for India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. The partnership aims to establish a dedicated aerospace gas turbine complex in India, which will serve as a hub for power and propulsion technology.

Reliance Industries' Executive Director Anant Ambani emphasized that India's strategic autonomy necessitates a sovereign capability in critical technologies. He highlighted the collaboration with Rolls-Royce to leverage their world-leading expertise in advanced propulsion and Reliance's technological, manufacturing, scale, and execution capabilities to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India.

The ultimate goal is to create a self-reliant and globally competitive advanced propulsion technology sector, contributing to the vision of an atmanirbhar (self-reliant) Bharat.

Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgiç expressed his enthusiasm for joining forces with Reliance Industries, combining their century-long heritage in advanced engineering and proven engine expertise with Reliance's homegrown leadership in the Indian industry. By establishing this complex, the companies aim to build a robust, self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in the country while opening up opportunities to explore wider collaborations in defense, civil aerospace, and new power and propulsion systems.
