Public sector reform must prioritise staff welfare – Civil Service head

Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, the Head of the Civil Service, has emphasized the importance of staff welfare, teamwork, and discipline to enhance performance in the public sector. He made these remarks at the conclusion of a cooking competition and health fair organized for staff of various ministries as part of activities during Civil Service Week.

The annual event, coordinated by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service and involving ministries and departments nationwide, took place under the theme "The Resetting Agenda for Sustainable Development in Ghana: The Civil Service’s Responsibilities."

Dr Aggrey-Darkoh highlighted that such activities provide a chance for staff to unwind, interact, and collaborate outside their typical office setting. He observed people dancing, networking, and working together as a team during the event, emphasizing that maintaining this spirit is crucial for driving the Civil Service forward.

He urged employees to apply the same principles of discipline, teamwork, and effective time management to their daily tasks, stating that time management is a key indicator of a country's development.

The Civil Service Week activities aimed to support the government's reset agenda and foster a more productive, resilient, and enterprising public service. Dr Aggrey-Darkoh stressed the significance of healthy living, noting that proper hygiene and food quality are vital in the cooking competition. He reminded staff that their well-being is closely linked to the quality of their food, emphasizing that a hygienic food environment is essential to maintain good health.
