PPP slams gov't housing supply plan as lacking concrete measures

The main opposition People Power Party (PPP) has harshly criticized the government's recently announced housing plan, dismissing it as a reiteration of previous measures that do not alleviate citizens' hardships or tackle the housing crisis. This assessment came shortly after the government unveiled a comprehensive package intended to boost housing supply and stabilize both the rental and sales markets, with a focus on Seoul and other densely populated areas within the capital region.

PPP floor leader Jeong Jeom-sig addressed the issue during a floor meeting, expressing his concerns about the government's propensity to recycle previously announced initiatives and deceive the public by inflating figures. He stated, "If the government persists in rehashing previously announced measures and tricks people by overstating the numbers, even well-intentioned policies risk losing the trust of the market and the public."

Jeong Jeom-sig highlighted that the government claims to have supplied over 1.5 million housing units. However, he pointed out that 1.35 million of these homes are a result of a public housing supply plan launched last year by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation. Furthermore, the PPP leader noted that the government aims to provide around 240,000 additional homes, with 100,000 units allocated to newly designated public housing sites; however, no concrete measures have been revealed yet.
