Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Narkotik (JSJN) Bukit Aman, Hussein Omar Khan, revealed to Berita Harian that Malaysian police had knowledge of how a detained Malaysian pilot with over 26kg of drugs managed to bypass security checks at KLIA last month. The information was obtained after his team confronted the pilot since two days ago.

However, detailed information has not been disclosed to the public at this time. He added that JSJN also acquired crucial information about an international drug syndicate connected to the case. Consequently, police are now pursuing drug syndicate members in Malaysia and abroad believed to have ties to the incident. The pilot reportedly cooperated well, according to him.

Earlier, Indonesian authorities reported that the pilot was working for Malaysia Airlines and was detained at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on July 29 after being found with 25kg of ecstasy and 2.7g of methamphetamine. Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) clarified that the detained pilot was a second employee not on duty and seated in an additional spot in the cockpit as a lookout, not controlling the flight.

Following the incident, MAG mandated mandatory drug screening for all crew members of its affiliated airlines, starting with 1,260 Malaysia Airlines crew members, while authorities imposed safety screening at airports.
