Police seize 288 bundles of cannabis concealed in Napier grass in Bungoma

Police in Webuye West, Bungoma County, made an arrest and seized 288 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa after intercepting a motorcycle at Dina Flyover along the Bukembe–Malaba highway on August 14, 2026. The National Police Service (NPS) had been conducting a strategic operation along the busy transport corridor when they noticed a rider transporting a large load of Napier grass.

Following the motorcycle, officers stopped and searched the load, discovering the concealed narcotics hidden within the dried leaves. The suspect was taken into custody and is awaiting arraignment in court. The recovered material has been secured as evidence for ongoing investigations. The police service commended the officers involved for their successful operation.

This incident follows another multi-agency operation on August 7, where officers recovered 88.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa along the Maliki–Wabukhonyi Road, estimated to be worth Ksh 2.65 million. Both recoveries have prompted calls for residents to provide information to help disrupt drug trafficking networks. The NPS remains committed to dismantling illegal drug supply chains and urges the public to report suspicious activity through police stations or emergency numbers. The recovered narcotics will be held as exhibits as the cases progress through the legal process.
