Police arrest 147 suspects in Niger raids, recover weapons, cannabis

The Niger State Police Command conducted numerous raids across the state, arresting 147 suspects and seizing weapons and cannabis. The majority of arrests occurred in Suleja and neighboring areas, following a reported unlawful assembly and violent rally. Police acted on intelligence and launched sting operations at various locations, ultimately detaining 139 suspects.

Among the apprehended were 64 individuals found to be in possession of large amounts of suspected cannabis, dangerous weapons, tools, and cartridges. These 64 suspect were arraigned before a court and remanded in a correctional facility. In Minna, eight suspects were arrested during raids targeting suspected thugs and criminal hideouts.

Police recovered a long flexible cutlass, clubs, a shovel, and other items from their residences. Another suspect was arrested in the Sauka-Kahuta area, found with sharp daggers, an "ice bunker," lighters, and suspected cannabis. Additionally, four suspects were apprehended in Maitumbi during a raid on criminal hideouts, with illicit substances and shisha pots discovered.

The police stated that these operations were part of their ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and maintain security in Niger State.
