PM Anwar hails stronger Q2 expansion, says govt shielded households from global inflation

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with Malaysia's robust second quarter growth, which came in at 6 per cent. The Prime Minister highlighted this as the country's best performance since 2014, outside of the pandemic era, despite the challenges of global supply chain disruptions and the conflict in West Asia.

In a Facebook post, Anwar praised the government's efforts to protect citizens from the impact of global inflationary pressures. He credited the implementation of policies like Budi Madani, Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), along with behind-the-scenes measures to stabilize prices and maintain supply.

Anwar acknowledged that sustained growth and the equitable distribution of its benefits required ongoing efforts. The Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining meaningful incomes, quality job opportunities, and assistance for vulnerable groups. He affirmed the government's dedication to pursuing reforms aimed at enhancing the economy and bolstering the well-being of the nation's people, stating that the Madani government would continue on its reform path to elevate the dignity of the people and reinforce the economic foundations of the beloved nation.
