PKR perlu pegang teguh pada amanah perjuangan, kata Nurul Izzah

Nurul Izzah Anwar, Deputy President of PKR, confidently expressed her support for the representation of female PKR members at the party's congress at the International Convention Centre in Melaka, MITC. In her final remarks before taking a break from her role as Deputy President, Nurul Izzah urged the party to remain steadfast in its struggle commitment and not become the party that was once oppressed.

As a former Permatang Pauh MP, she emphasized that the party must always be cautious when holding power to avoid forgetting the values that form the basis of her reform struggle. She warned that we must always be cautious when in power, especially when there is a tendency to change into what we despise about our opponents. Nurul Izzah also stated that the party must always question itself whether the actions taken serve personal interests or bring greater good to society.

"If you cannot see men or women in the mirror, you need to change your way," she said. Last week, PKR announced that Nurul Izzah would take a temporary leave from her duties as Deputy President following the party congress at the end of the week. She explained that she made the decision to step down temporarily to continue the cause, emphasizing that service to the people does not necessarily have to be done through politics.

Compromise, she noted, does not necessarily mean abandoning principles. In her speech, Nurul Izzah also addressed the types of compromise faced by PKR, warning that being in government could bring short-term political temptations concealed behind pragmatic reasons. There are two types of compromise: one for the greater good, such as cooperating with Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to turn around the Najib Razak administration, and another that opens the door to corruption and deceit.

Nurul Izzah stressed that we must set our boundaries and not cross them. The approach of PKR so far has been to remain simple and pragmatic without compromising principles. "That is the heart of reform," she said. Nurul Izzah also emphasized that leadership is not about having power, but about guarding public trust. She urged PKR's youth and female wings to ensure that the reform struggle is not just a hollow slogan, but translated into action and principles in governance.
