PKR perlu pegang teguh pada amanah perjuangan, kata Nurul Izzah

Nurul Izzah Anwar, Deputy President of PKR, expressed confidence in the female members of the party attending the PKR Women and Youth Congress at the International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh. In her final remarks before taking a leave from her role as Deputy President, Nurul Izzah urged the party to remain steadfast in its mission and not turn into a party that was once betrayed.

As a former Permatang Pauh MP, she emphasized the importance of being vigilant when holding power to avoid neglecting the values that form the foundation of her reformism. She stressed the need to avoid becoming what one despises the most when in power and to constantly question oneself if actions taken serve personal interests or bring greater good to society.

If one cannot see men or women in the mirror, Nurul Izzah advised, they must change their approach. Last week, PKR announced that Nurul Izzah would take a temporary leave from her deputy presidency position after the party's congress this weekend. She cited the need to continue her advocacy while stressing that public service does not necessarily have to be done through politics.

Compromise does not mean abandoning principles, Nurul Izzah added, warning about the short-term temptations of power that can open the door to corruption and fraud. There are two types of compromise: one for the greater good, exemplified by the cooperation with Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to revitalize Najib Razak's administration, and the other that leads to evil and corruption.

Nurul Izzah stressed the need to set boundaries that will not be crossed. The current approach of PKR is to remain simple and pragmatic without compromising principles, which she described as the heart of reformism. Finally, Nurul Izzah emphasized that leadership is not about holding power but about safeguarding public trust. She urged PKR's youth and female wings to ensure that the reform movement becomes more than just a slogan, translating into actions and principles in governance.
