Pixel 11 Pro Fold is stuck as the fourth-best foldable, and that’s a good thing for you [Gallery]

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold foldable has been launched in a new market by Google after a couple of years. It brings with it several welcome improvements, making it a foldable that I would want to carry. However, I believe it will be relegated to being the fourth-best foldable available in mass markets, but that's actually a good thing for the customer.

This device represents the third evolution of a design that brought Google back into the foldable market after a challenging first attempt in 2023. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold was quite impressive initially, but it didn't hold up well over time. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which was a minor evolution, was less exciting compared to Samsung's advancements.

The foldable market is thriving now with numerous incredible options worldwide, even in the US where there were previously limited choices. Although the Pixel 11 Pro Fold faces an uphill battle, it puts up a strong fight. It delivers typical year-over-year improvements like a new Tensor G6 chip and new colors, although it's not a major overhaul.

The design remains mostly unchanged, except for a new camera island. Google has managed to reduce the thickness to 10.1mm when folded, which is good enough in my opinion. It's thinner than some competitors but not as slim as Samsung or Oppo. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is lighter than the Razr Fold and feels nice in hand. While it may not be as thin as the Razr, the overall fit and finish are impressive.

When compared to Samsung's foldables, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold doesn't feel archaic anymore, and a 1mm difference makes a significant difference. Although it's not as thin as Samsung's devices, they are no longer two separate generations of foldable hardware. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold still lags behind in terms of key areas such as battery capacity, but it remains a viable option.
