Pakistan to Help Protect Arab World From US-Iran War

Pakistan will offer the Saudi-led Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition its first deputy commander as the alliance prepares to deploy its command structure and personnel, according to a recent announcement by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defense. This decision was made during the coalition's third planning meeting in Jeddah, where representatives from 39 countries participated.

The coalition's primary focus is on the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden, which are crucial maritime routes connecting Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Saudi Rear Admiral Abdullah bin Salem Al-Shehri was appointed to the role of coalition commander just last week.

As member states prepare to integrate their officers and personnel into the coalition's command, maritime, and intelligence structures, the organization has already secured its headquarters, an official logo, and finalized its operational frameworks. Currently, 15 countries have signed the coalition's joint statement, while 13 have completed the additional domestic steps required for full membership. Additional countries are still in the process of obtaining formal approval.

Coalition Commander Al-Shehri emphasized the alliance's objective to establish sustainable multinational maritime defense cooperation. He noted that the coalition continues to receive applications from other nations, indicating a growing global recognition of the necessity for collective action to counter shared maritime threats. The Saudi Ministry of Defense explained that the present phase of the coalition's development is centered on expediting operational capabilities and enhancing readiness for defensive missions.

Saudi Arabia initiated the coalition announcement last month following a meeting in Riyadh that brought together representatives from 43 countries. Initially, 14 nations, including Saudi Arabia, joined the initiative. Saudi officials have stated that the coalition remains open to admitting additional countries that share its objectives and principles.
