Osun: Police announce movement restriction, ban Amotekun, others from polling units

Ahead of Osun State's gubernatorial election, the Nigeria Police have announced a restriction on movement across the state from midnight on Friday to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, made the announcement in a statement on Friday. The police urged the public to comply with the restriction and cooperate with security personnel deployed in the state.

Only individuals and categories of movement specifically exempted by authorized authorities will be permitted during this period. The police also reiterated their earlier prohibition on the involvement of Amotekun and other non-state security actors in election-related security operations. They emphasized that only security agencies recognized and established under the Constitution and laws of Nigeria are authorized to perform security and law-enforcement duties alongside the Nigeria Police Force during the election.

Unauthorized groups are directed to stay away from these operations and refrain from any activity that may intimidate voters, disrupt the electoral process, or undermine public peace and security.
