Osun Election: INEC begins distribution of sensitive electoral materials, explains delay

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of crucial electoral materials across Osun State's 30 local government areas in preparation for the upcoming governorship election on August 15, 2026. In a report on Friday, INEC's National Commissioner for Osun State, Kunle Ajayi, clarified that the process is underway at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Osogbo, the state's capital.

Ajayi explained that the delay in the distribution was due to the late arrival of the freshly printed ballot papers and other necessary materials from Abuja, following the recent addition of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the ballot. He emphasized that INEC began the distribution to ensure all materials arrived at their respective locations before the polling day.

It was recently announced that the SDP candidate, Francis Ajala, along with his running mate, Faseke Oladipo, were included in the election's official list, increasing the total number of political parties contesting the election to 15. As a result, the INEC has started producing new ballot papers and result sheets to accommodate this change.
