Opposition Emerges As Work Begins On ₹417-Crore Elevated Corridor Ahead Of Simhastha 2028 In MP's Ujjain

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The city's first elevated bridge project is set to commence, but opposition is already emerging. Mysteriously placed posters have appeared overnight in the Indoregate area, voicing dissent against the proposed bridge. As preparations for Simhastha 2028 advance, the construction of the 3.536-km, four-lane elevated corridor valued at ₹417.37 crore has begun.

The project, spanning from Makodiaam on Agar Road through Indoregate to the Harifatak Flyover, involves permanent barricading and the closure of half a road on a 100-metre stretch near Charak Bhawan. Local businesses, who held out hope for a two-lane bridge, now face the prospect of losing 20 feet of land each, leaving little room for their operations.

The elevated bridge is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on key routes, allowing long-distance traffic to traverse the upper level while the lower road accommodates local traffic. However, the project's expansion to a four-lane structure has raised concerns about available land for businesses. Additionally, preparations for Simhastha are underway, with electrical lines and infrastructure being installed.

Unfortunately, thieves have stolen three electrical poles from a Bapu Nagar site intended for the upcoming mega religious gathering, with the crime captured on CCTV.
