One year after son attacked, Rafizi decries threats, says case ‘died off’ unresolved

One year after his son was attacked in Putrajaya, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has expressed disappointment that the case has "gone quiet and died off". In a Facebook post, Rafizi claimed he was told by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail about a suspected mastermind, but his request for an open statement in Parliament was denied.

Rafizi stressed that such an assault had never occurred before in Malaysia and that it was a politically motivated attack on his wife. He accused the assailant of attempting to force his wife to abandon her husband's political career. Rafizi expressed gratitude for his family's support, stating that if he complied with such threats, he would be complicit in the continuation of wrongdoing and crime in the country.

He warned that if officials could intimidate a child belonging to a former minister, ordinary citizens could also face similar intimidation. Rafizi vowed to continue pursuing justice, vowing to wait every August 13 until the attacker and those responsible are held accountable. The incident on August 13 involved his child being grabbed by the neck and attacked twice in the shoulder while trying to enter a car.

The assailant, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a helmet, shouted at his wife. His wife later received threatening WhatsApp messages, warning of further attacks involving HIV. In January, Saifuddin stated that certain information could not be disclosed to protect investigations and witness safety, adding that the case remained under investigation pending new leads.
