One year after son attacked, Rafizi decries threats, says case ‘died off’ unresolved

One year after his son's attack, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has expressed frustration over the unresolved case, stating that it has "gone quiet and died off." Speaking to reporters, Rafizi revealed that he was given informal information by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail about a suspected mastermind behind the assault, but his request for a formal statement in Parliament was denied.

He emphasized that this type of attack targeting a child and wife due to their husband's political beliefs had never occurred before in Malaysia. Rafizi claimed the assault was meant to coerce his wife into pressuring him to quit politics. He expressed gratitude for his family's support, saying, "If I gave in to such threats, I would be contributing to allowing wrongdoing and crime to persist in our nation."

Rafizi warned that if similar intimidation tactics can be employed against a minister's child, ordinary citizens might also become victims of intimidation. He vowed to persist in seeking justice, promising to wait on August 13 every year until the perpetrator and their associates are held accountable, regardless of whether the authorities take action or not.

Rafizi recalled the incident that took place on August 13 last year, describing how his child was attacked in public while trying to enter a car. The assailant, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a helmet, grabbed his child by the neck and stabbed him twice in the shoulder while yelling at his wife. Later, his wife received WhatsApp messages threatening that "the next would be HIV."

In January, Saifuddin stated that certain details could not be disclosed to prevent hindering investigations or endangering witnesses, and the case was still under investigation pending new leads.
