NPC president Samson Deen chairs NSA’s new Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has established a committee to secure sustainable funding and strengthen partnerships for the development of sports in Ghana. This five-member committee, chaired by African Paralympic Committee President Samson Deen, was inaugurated in Accra with the responsibility of exploring innovative methods of resource mobilization and enhancing collaboration between the NSA and potential partners.

Deen emphasized that resource mobilization should encompass more than just financial assistance, highlighting Ghana's abundance of sporting talent but the absence of adequate systems to identify, finance, develop, and promote athletes to the highest levels. He argued that Ghana should shift from emergency funding to a long-term investment strategy, moving away from last-minute fundraising.

The committee aims to engage various stakeholders, including government agencies, corporations, development partners, sports federations, the media, and organizations involved in sports development. Deen proposed that the Constituency Games should serve as a platform for grassroots talent identification and development, moving beyond being just another competition.

He urged media organizations to support athletes from the beginning of their careers and not solely focus on established stars. The committee's success will be measured by the tangible benefits it provides to athletes and sporting communities, rather than the number of meetings held or documents produced.
