NLNG, NCDMB Break Ground for Innovation Centre at Rivers Varsity

Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have commenced construction for a Research and Innovation Centre for Computer and Electrical Engineering (RICCEE) at Rivers State University in Port Harcourt. This project, NLNG's largest human capital development initiative, aims to bolster Nigeria's indigenous research, technological capabilities, and engineering skills.

The centre will host a professorial chair and serve as a research and development hub, focusing on industry-relevant solutions, particularly for NLNG's operations. Successful outcomes may be commercialized for broader industry use. NLNG's Managing Director, Adeleye Falade, emphasized the strategic importance of the project in sustaining human capital development in Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Felix Ogbe, positioned the centre as a key milestone in the board's human capital development agenda, highlighting its role in fostering partnerships with higher institutions. The Vice-Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, sees the RICCEE as a world-class hub for engineering and technological advancements, emphasizing the importance of university-industry collaboration.

The centre will span approximately 9,336 square meters and include specialized laboratories for electronics, robotics, software engineering, and cybersecurity, among other facilities, all designed to enhance research, teaching, and practical skill development. This initiative is part of NCDMB's broader Human Capital Development program, which seeks to upgrade educational infrastructure and integrate academic learning with research and practical problem-solving.
