Nigeria: Use Osun to Show How Prepared You Are for 2027, Tinubu Tells INEC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to utilize the upcoming Osun State governorship election as a showcase of its readiness for the 2027 general elections. In a statement, the President emphasized the importance of a peaceful and transparent electoral process in Osun, where voters will choose from 15 candidates, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Tinubu appealed to the electorate to participate in the election, refraining from any actions that could undermine the integrity of the process. He assured the public of their safety before and after the polls. The President also stressed the need for INEC to ensure the fairness, transparency, and security of the Osun governorship election, positioning it as a litmus test for the electoral system's preparedness for the 2027 polls.

In a call for heightened security, Tinubu instructed the Inspector-General of Police and other security agency heads involved in the election to maintain maximum protection at polling stations. The President assured that all necessary measures have been taken to safeguard electoral officials and voters, allowing them to exercise their civic duties without fear of intimidation. Tinubu reiterated that credible elections are crucial, and the Osun Governorship election should reflect the genuine will of the people.
