Netanyahu brands Britain an ‘Islamic republic’ as it prepares Israel sanctions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called Britain an "Islamic republic," despite decades of British support for Israel. During an interview, Netanyahu criticized the UK for its favorable coverage of Israel during the 1967 war, which resulted in Israeli forces seizing the Gaza Strip, West Bank, East Jerusalem, Sinai Peninsula, and Golan Heights. He went so far as to say that Britain is now the "first Islamic republic with nuclear weapons" in Europe.

This remark comes as Britain prepares to implement new policies against Israel in September, including a ban on goods from illegal Israeli settlements and potential sanctions on individuals and organizations involved in the Israeli settler movement. Despite these efforts, Netanyahu's rhetoric contradicts Britain's longstanding support for Israel, with the Labour government recently designating the Palestine Action group as a terrorist organization and conducting surveillance flights over Gaza during the recent genocide.
