Nandom NPP primary heats up as four aspirants enter 2028 race

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is preparing for a contested parliamentary nomination race in Nandom ahead of the 2028 elections. Four candidates have declared their intentions to run: Sylvester Isang, a legal practitioner; former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery; social development consultant Alois Kog Kyaakpier Mohl; and Kuudenign Martin Delle, a former DKM Microfinance CEO.

The Nandom seat is currently held by the NDC's Dr Richard Kuuire. Isang emphasizes his experience and the urgency to contribute to the constituency's development, noting he will be 50 in January 2027 and has 10 years to reach the mandatory retirement age of 60. He shares his humble beginnings and tributes to his late grandfather, who financed his education.

Isang's development agenda includes providing tractors for farmers, establishing a Food Relief Office, supporting poor households, offering free transport for students, constructing boreholes, and creating a cultural center. Ambrose Dery returns to politics after announcing his candidacy on August 11, pledging to run on issues without personal insults.

Kyaakpier Mohl seeks a second opportunity after being disqualified from the 2024 NPP primary in Nandom and is expected to declare his intention by the end of August. The fourth candidate, Delle, announced his entry on August 12. With four contenders, the NPP primary in Nandom is anticipated to be a closely contested race as the party selects its candidate for the upcoming 2028 parliamentary election.
