Nakhumicha: If Sifuna wants to be president, he should first support Ruto in 2027

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's aspirations for the presidency, as outlined by former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, are seemingly premature. Nakhumicha urged Sifuna to first support President William Ruto's re-election bid in 2027, emphasizing that a solid political history is necessary for one to aspire to the highest office.

The Trans Nzoia gubernatorial hopeful's statement was made in an interview with a local media station on Friday, August 14, 2026. In her view, Sifuna has demonstrated an ability to draw substantial crowds during his rallies, signaling that he possesses the potential to be a formidable candidate in the future. However, Nakhumicha noted that if Sifuna is genuinely intent on becoming president, he should begin by rallying behind Ruto in the upcoming general election, as this move could position him for a future presidential run.

This recommendation follows Sifuna's growing popularity, with several Western Kenyan leaders backing his presidential ambitions, including former Westlands MP Fred Gumo and former minister Musikari Kombo. Despite Nakhumicha's comments, the momentum behind Sifuna's presidential bid continues to build, with leaders from Western Kenya continuing to call for the senator to test his popularity in the 2027 elections.
