NAFDAC, police partner on enforcement of sachet alcohol in Ogun

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Ogun State Police Command have reinforced their joint efforts to enforce regulations on the sale and distribution of alcoholic drinks in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml. Eleweran, the Police Relations Officer of Ogun State Command, shared the news on the command’s X handle.

Mr. Akinwale Fagoroye, the State Coordinator of NAFDAC Ogun Office 1, led a delegation to the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, where they met with the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni. The enforcement operation, initiated in Abeokuta, will spread to other regions in Ogun State and continue until complete compliance is reached.

Fagoroye explained that the main objective of this initiative is to safeguard public health and curb the adverse effects of easily accessible, low-cost alcoholic beverages, especially among young individuals. NAFDAC teams are inspecting various locations, including markets, motor parks, retail stores, bars, warehouses, and factories, to ensure adherence to the new rules.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, expressed gratitude towards NAFDAC for its commitment to public health protection and assured the agency of the police command's continued support during lawful actions. Both organizations emphasized the importance of compliance with regulations by manufacturers, distributors, sellers, and consumers, urging the public to report any suspicious or unsafe practices to the relevant authorities.
